Blog #6

Hello,

I visited an schools website this week, Belmont Academy Charter School, and viewed the first grade page under the teacher Christina Cully. On her pager, she has a biography to tell a little about herself, including her academic credentials, why she loves teaching and a little about herself. On her main page, there is guide to access all other pages, including a reference page, links, schedule, first grade weekly news, videos, posts, and a photo album. You can click on all these tabs and access these different pages. The reference page gives a guideline to where students are at on their reading level, where they should be, and what to do if they do not have access to internet. The links page contains different link that they evidently use in their classroom, like educational games. The schedule shows their everyday schedule in the classroom, for parents (and students) to know how their day and week will go. The first grade weekly news is visually pleasing and easy to read, and is addressed to the family members of the student so they know what their student will be doing that week. The videos, post, and photo album tab all contain media of the students doing a variety of things in the classroom. I can access all this information, and I know that the information is mainly addressed to the parents of the first graders, not the students themselves as they are so young. The whole page is super easy to navigate and super beneficial to the parents of the students.

I will use technology in my professional career to consistently update my students and/or parents of my students on what is happening in the classroom, materials needed, and tools they can use outside they classroom if they need more help learning the lesson. Technology is a way to easily broadcast information to a wide variety of people, and I would use a website so all the information I need to broadcast would be in one source. This way it is efficient for everyone to go to the same source and see all they need to know. This is effective for me because in my professional career I would only have to upload information to one place, not worry about having to email, text, call, and upload a website. Additionally it is effective for them because they see all they need to know, and can easily react to what they see.

The technology sandbox had an amazing amount of resources that can be used in the classroom. My personal favorite was he interactive smart board. This way, the supplies like a marker and an eraser are not needed and marker will not get all over the arm of people who are left handed, like it does on a dry erase board. I loved the smart board because it had so many tools to help in learning, like apps and educational games you can download, internet, drawing board, and more than one person can be using it at a time. An amazing feature I learned about on one of the smart board was randomly scattering problems throughout the board, and having the students throw a beanbag at the board, and it will select a random problem they have to complete. That way, they cannot work out the problem they do in advanced, but instead have a random problem to do. These features all would help a classroom in so many ways, I really hope I will be able to access a smart board in my classroom.

Blog Post #0 - About Me and Technology

Hello Everyone! My name is Kaylee Curry, and I am a freshman at Florida State University majoring in Elementary Education! I am originally from Lake City, Florida, but now home is in Jacksonville, Florida. I come from a huge family, with twenty first cousins and only two siblings. I love to travel, and have been to twenty-eight countries so far, and have so many more I want to go to! I love watching almost all sports, but basketball and football are definitely my favorites. I love the Warriors ( got to support the Curry family) and love the Jags. (#DTWD) I have used technology in an educational setting for basically my whole life. I was home-schooled until eighth grade, so I relied totally on online schooling.  When I actually went to school, my school used projectors to display information, like many do. I have used many online resources to better my education, with programs such as MyMathLab. This year, I have used iclickers, which is an easier way for teachers to take attend...

Project #3 Blog!

Growing up in a homeschool setting has an effect on all aspects of a students life. I was homeschooled and there are things in my life that were totally different then they were for those who actually went to school. When I got accepted into college, I was expecting for the transition from being homeschooled to actually living away from home to be the most dramatic difference I had ever experienced. Even though I have had so many different adjustments in my life as a result of being homeschooled, I was prepared for this one to be the worst. However, I was happily proven wrong. College is where many kids grow into adults and gain their independence. They learn that things are not revolving around them and people will not cater to them. I felt like I had already had some of that knowledge worked into my brain, because I previously had to teach myself everything, and if something did not work out for me, school wise, it was no ones fault but my own, which I understood. I felt like this...

ILP #2 - Design Google Classroom!

Hi everyone! This week I completed an independent learning project, which is a way to use my own interests to gain professional development in educational technology. I used the tool of GoogleClassroom to create a classroom webpage, where students could go and see all the worksheets they needed to do and when they were due, in all of their classes. They could click on classwork and scroll through each subject to see what is due and when. I really liked how on google classroom there is a stream page to scroll and see all assignments that are due in one place. I attached the link to my google classroom page below, and screenshots of the main page. Link to my Google Classroom: You must log into to google to access, and the CODE is 59imczm https://classroom.google.com/u/0/c/MjYzMjIzMjM2MDNa Screenshot Images of my Google Classroom Website: Thank you for reading!  Kaylee Curry
