Blog #7 - October 30th!!

Hello Everyone,
This week I am writing about my experiences with Twitter, what I learned with the creation of my Web page, and Assistive and Adaptive technologies.
My experiences with Twitter so far have gone really well. The benefits of using Twitter include being able to see what so many others with the same interests as me are posting about and currently doing within the field of educational technology. It makes it simple to publish someone else's tweet, so your followers can see who you agree with. A benefit is being able to see quick updates on information, without having to go read whole articles. Instead, I can easily read the headlines, and then if I am interested I can go and research more about that specific topic. I have learned many things about educational technology using Twitter, and updates on things that are happening in the classroom. For example, last week I read about a teacher protest that was happening in Oklahoma! I have not experienced any problems with Twitter, and I love increasing my PNL through Twitter.
When I was creating my website I learned so many new skills in Web Design. I made my Website through Weebly.com and I learned how to do so many things, like embed a functioning calendar into my webpage, create a chart, create a bulleted list, and add my Creative Commons license. I did not like that it was so hard to add a header for me, and the text boxes and the image boxes would not combine every time. Next time, I will make my pages more unique, and not follow the same pattern, yet still having enough repetition to flow together. I will use this skill in my future career when I have to make a real life teaching page, for the school I am with. I will already know how to create a website. My teaching page will be a way for my students to get access to any outside of class things they could need, and now that I know how to design a website, I will be able to make a even better website in my career. Attached is the link to my website, and a screenshot of the homepage.
Assistive and adaptive technologies are such an amazing addition to technology to benefit those who can not operate on technologies others can. I have not personally used any assistive and adaptive technologies, however I have friends who have. My friend was very OCD, and always had to make sure his notes were perfect. Because of having perfect notes, he could not ever pay attention to the whole lecture and have good notes. As a result, he had a recorder teachers would wear around their neck, and everything the teacher said would be recorded. This way he could go back and finish his notes. The challenges in using these technologies in the classroom would be access, or trying to have all the technologies to support those with special needs. Also it could be a challenge if the student would need to use their voice for one of the assistive technologies, then it could disrupt the other students in the classroom. I am amazed by the assistive and adaptive technologies that can allow so many more people to be able to use technology.

Blog Post #0 - About Me and Technology

Hello Everyone! My name is Kaylee Curry, and I am a freshman at Florida State University majoring in Elementary Education! I am originally from Lake City, Florida, but now home is in Jacksonville, Florida. I come from a huge family, with twenty first cousins and only two siblings. I love to travel, and have been to twenty-eight countries so far, and have so many more I want to go to! I love watching almost all sports, but basketball and football are definitely my favorites. I love the Warriors ( got to support the Curry family) and love the Jags. (#DTWD) I have used technology in an educational setting for basically my whole life. I was home-schooled until eighth grade, so I relied totally on online schooling.  When I actually went to school, my school used projectors to display information, like many do. I have used many online resources to better my education, with programs such as MyMathLab. This year, I have used iclickers, which is an easier way for teachers to take attend...

Project #3 Blog!

Growing up in a homeschool setting has an effect on all aspects of a students life. I was homeschooled and there are things in my life that were totally different then they were for those who actually went to school. When I got accepted into college, I was expecting for the transition from being homeschooled to actually living away from home to be the most dramatic difference I had ever experienced. Even though I have had so many different adjustments in my life as a result of being homeschooled, I was prepared for this one to be the worst. However, I was happily proven wrong. College is where many kids grow into adults and gain their independence. They learn that things are not revolving around them and people will not cater to them. I felt like I had already had some of that knowledge worked into my brain, because I previously had to teach myself everything, and if something did not work out for me, school wise, it was no ones fault but my own, which I understood. I felt like this...

ILP #2 - Design Google Classroom!

Hi everyone! This week I completed an independent learning project, which is a way to use my own interests to gain professional development in educational technology. I used the tool of GoogleClassroom to create a classroom webpage, where students could go and see all the worksheets they needed to do and when they were due, in all of their classes. They could click on classwork and scroll through each subject to see what is due and when. I really liked how on google classroom there is a stream page to scroll and see all assignments that are due in one place. I attached the link to my google classroom page below, and screenshots of the main page.
