ILP #!

Hey everyone!
Today I completed my Individual Learning Project, Participation, and completed a Lynda tutorial. This blog post will tell you what I learned and how I felt about the learning experience through Lynda. In Lynda, I watched the tutorial “New features in Gmail.” This taught me about the new features that Gmail would be offering in 2018. I learned how you can switch from new interphase and the classic phase, which is actually a very simple procedure if you are on a personal account. The new interphase will be permanent soon, but this tutorial helped my get a jump start on how to work the new interphase. I learned how to snooze an email, and so the email will only come up to the top of your inbox when it is relevant. You can snooze it until you have time to read it, without worrying about it getting lost in your other emails. You can also now preview your email without opening, so that you do not have to “read” an email if you do not have time to process the whole email. If these shortcuts get to be too much, you can just disable them so they are not in your way.
The far right side of Gmail now has a sidebar to see Google calendar, and quickly preview the calendar , while staying the Gmail page. You know can access “Keep” notes on your Gmail on the sidebar, which is a note taking app. This way you can access your notes across all devices. Tasks is a new feature on the sidebar, to add a item to a to do list, or make multiple lists. These tools are all Google tools accessible from the sidebar, however we can also access third party tools from this sidebar. You simply have to install them to the sidebar, and sign into your account. You know have a shortcut for outside sources on Gmail sidebar. Another new feature, Gmail now has artificial intelligence by formulating replies that you may want to reply with. For example, if someone says “ When can we meet?” you can easily select a day with the smart reply, and then you can cut down your response time. Gmail also added an automatic flagging system to who they it thinks is an important message, based off who you answer most, the context, and how fast you answer.
I learned so many important features that can help me better navigate through my Gmail account thanks to the Lynda tutorial. Now I can access Gmail to the best of its ability, and not be wasting precious resources. These tutorials not only told me or had me read how-to’s but showed  me in a video so I could see exactly how to access and use the new materials. Overall, I loved the Lynda platform for learning, and will definitely be using it to learn more into detail about other technologies I could eventually use in a classroom, or even just for day to day life. Lynda was super convenient and easy to use, and I had a great learning experience.

Here is a copy of my notes I took during the tutorial

Blog Post #0 - About Me and Technology

Hello Everyone! My name is Kaylee Curry, and I am a freshman at Florida State University majoring in Elementary Education! I am originally from Lake City, Florida, but now home is in Jacksonville, Florida. I come from a huge family, with twenty first cousins and only two siblings. I love to travel, and have been to twenty-eight countries so far, and have so many more I want to go to! I love watching almost all sports, but basketball and football are definitely my favorites. I love the Warriors ( got to support the Curry family) and love the Jags. (#DTWD) I have used technology in an educational setting for basically my whole life. I was home-schooled until eighth grade, so I relied totally on online schooling.  When I actually went to school, my school used projectors to display information, like many do. I have used many online resources to better my education, with programs such as MyMathLab. This year, I have used iclickers, which is an easier way for teachers to take attend...

Project #3 Blog!

Growing up in a homeschool setting has an effect on all aspects of a students life. I was homeschooled and there are things in my life that were totally different then they were for those who actually went to school. When I got accepted into college, I was expecting for the transition from being homeschooled to actually living away from home to be the most dramatic difference I had ever experienced. Even though I have had so many different adjustments in my life as a result of being homeschooled, I was prepared for this one to be the worst. However, I was happily proven wrong. College is where many kids grow into adults and gain their independence. They learn that things are not revolving around them and people will not cater to them. I felt like I had already had some of that knowledge worked into my brain, because I previously had to teach myself everything, and if something did not work out for me, school wise, it was no ones fault but my own, which I understood. I felt like this...

ILP #2 - Design Google Classroom!

Hi everyone! This week I completed an independent learning project, which is a way to use my own interests to gain professional development in educational technology. I used the tool of GoogleClassroom to create a classroom webpage, where students could go and see all the worksheets they needed to do and when they were due, in all of their classes. They could click on classwork and scroll through each subject to see what is due and when. I really liked how on google classroom there is a stream page to scroll and see all assignments that are due in one place. I attached the link to my google classroom page below, and screenshots of the main page. Link to my Google Classroom: You must log into to google to access, and the CODE is 59imczm https://classroom.google.com/u/0/c/MjYzMjIzMjM2MDNa Screenshot Images of my Google Classroom Website: Thank you for reading!  Kaylee Curry
